In a move to improve public safety and simplify administrative processes, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has officially reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide through a secure digital platform.

This development is part of the NPF’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and improve service delivery to the public. IGP Egbetokun emphasized the importance of this development, stating:
“The reactivation of the permit system is a strategic move to identify lawful users such as individuals with medical requirements or members of the security community while preventing misuse for criminal activities.”
According to him, this system will allow the legal use of tinted glasses while still protecting the public. It’s no news that tinted vehicles have been used by criminals to carry out crimes like kidnapping, “one-chance” scams, and armed robbery. By introducing the TGP system, the NPF aims to improve public security while still making tinted glasses available to those who legally obtain them.
Key Features of the New Digital Tinted Glass Permit System

- Online Application Portal: Applicants can now apply for TGPs through the online platform at https://possap.gov.ng.
- Integrated Identity Verification: The application process includes biometric capture and background checks, integrating the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) to verify the identity of applicants. However, applicants still have to visit stations for a physical biometric capture, which is one thing the public is currently complaining about.
- Processing Timeline: The processing time for permit issuance has been streamlined to 72 hours, ensuring quicker turnaround for applicants.
- Grace Period: A 30-day grace period has been approved, starting May 1, 2025, during which motorists are expected to comply with the new regulations. Enforcement will commence after this period.
